¿Cómo Se Defiende?
La Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) define la salud como “el completo bienestar físico, psicológico y social del individuo”.
Este bienestar es un estado de equilibrio dinámico que es la capacidad del individuo de adaptarse activamente al medio que lo rodea.
Puesto que, decimos que es dinámico porque tanto las condiciones físicas y psíquicas, como las condiciones externas (medio ambiente), cambian constantemente.
La salud está íntimamente relacionada con el medio en que vivimos, la educación que alcanzamos, los alimentos que ingerimos, el aire que respiramos, la manera en que trabajamos, etc.
El bienestar físico y espiritual, es óptima relación con el medio ambiente, requiere el mantenimiento de un equilibrio que determina nuestro estado de salud.

Los Tres Componentes
La relación entre las condiciones físicas, psíquicas y el medio ambiente determinan tres componentes que influyen sobre nuestra salud: el biológico, el psicosocial y el ecológico.
- El Componente Biológico: Se refiere a la herencia recibida de nuestros padres y al funcionamiento de nuestros sistemas y órganos. De acuerdo con este componente, son muy importantes la higiene, la alimentación y el ejercicio físico.
- El Componente Psicosocial: Se refiere a los aspectos emotivos (confianza en nosotros mismos y en los demás, autoestima), además formas de relacionarnos con los demás (actitudes positivas), el tipo de trabajo que realizamos (dedicación equilibrada, esfuerzo, estrés), la educación y la cultura adquirida (prevención, responsabilidad por la salud personal).
- El Componente Ecológico: Se refiere a las condiciones ambientales en las que nos desarrollamos (medio ambiente sano o contaminado).
El equilibrio entre estos tres componentes es muy importante para mantenerse en un estado saludable.
¿Por Qué Es Un Derecho?
La más importante de toda sociedad son las personas que la conforman. En este sentido. uno de los derechos fundamentales es el derecho de la salud, que se encuentra formulado en muchas constituciones, aunque su cumplimiento es efectivo en pocos países. Una persona saludable puede estudiar y trabajar mejor, y es capaz de disfrutar de su vida y de ejercer su responsabilidad social en mejores condiciones.
Por derecho a la salud se entiende la facultad que debería tener toda persona para acceder a cierta calidad de vida, a la prevención y a la atención médica cuando lo necesita.
La salud de la población está relacionada con una vida digna, con las necesidades básicas satisfechas, y un medio ambiente que permita el desarrollo afectivo.
También Es Una Responsabilidad
Algunas de las decisiones que tomamos pueden afectar nuestra salud. Por ejemplo, si permanecemos muchas horas ante la computadora, seguramente forzaremos la vista. Si esto se transforma en una rutina, es probable que tarde o temprano tengamos trastornos de la visión y debamos recurrir a un especialista.
Tomar sol, algo tan placentero, puede ocasionarnos daños en la piel cuando la exposición es prolongada y no usamos una crema o gel que nos proteja.
Y así, infinidad de opciones… Conocer la consecuencia de ciertas acciones es, entonces, un paso fundamental para cuidarnos. Y, a continuación, seguir los consejos médicos para evitar riesgos que ponen en peligro nuestra salud.
También es importante prestar atención a las señales que envía el cuerpo (dolor, cansancio,fiebre, etc.) para comunicarlo y lograr una atención médica. Es decir, aprovechando los medios que tenemos al alcance, podemos convertirnos en agentes de nuestra propia salud, lo que indica compromiso y responsabilidad.
¿Qué Es La Enfermedad?
De acuerdo con la definición de la salud, la enfermedad es la ruptura del equilibrio (tanto en el aspecto físico como en el psíquico) del individuo y su relación con el ambiente. La enfermedad se produce cuando un factor interno o externo sobrepasa nuestra capacidad de adaptación.
¿Qué Pasa Cuando Nos Enfermamos?
Como todo los seres vivos, estamos provistos, tanto física como psíquica-mente, de mecanismos de defensa que a su vez nos permiten adaptarnos activamente al medio y defendernos de las posibles agresiones.

Siempre pensamos que el rol de la medicina es curarnos cuando nos enfermamos. Sin embargo, una de sus tareas específicas es la prevención, que abarca todas las acciones tendientes a evitar que se produzcan alteraciones de la salud. Pero en la prevención no sólo actúan los profesionales de esta especialidad, sino también otros actores muy diversos, y abarca también diferentes áreas. Veamos algunas situaciones:
- En el ámbito familiar, los adultos transmiten una serie de normas para evitar accidentes y trastornos en los más pequeños. Las señales de calles y rutas dan una serie de indicaciones para que no se produzca accidentes de tránsito.
- En la escuela se enseñan nociones básicas sobre higiene, primeros auxilios y prevención de enfermedades. Algunas asociaciones realizan campañas sobre los peligros del tabaco o cómo hacer para no contraer determinadas dolencias.
- Hay organismos que difunden la necesidad del cuidado del medio ambiente. A veces, son los vecinos los que hacen fuertes reclamos para llamar la atención de las autoridades sobre casos puntuales de contaminación.
En fin, la lista es muy extensa. Lo importante es ser receptivo a estos mensajes, respetarlos, defenderlos y ponerlos en práctica. La prevención nos exige, además, ser participativos en nuestra comunidad.
Actitudes Positivas

Ya vimos que hay una estrecha relación entre los componentes biológicos y los psicofísicos. En este sentido es muy importante desarrollar actitudes positivas y constructivas, tanto en nuestra vida cotidiana como en situaciones de enfermedad.
Por ejemplo, si una persona enfrenta un problema y no busca una salida, sino que se queja, se encierra y se angustia, está más cerca de enfermarse que otra que busca soluciones, expresa sus sentimientos o imagina alternativas. Lo mismo ocurre ante una enfermedad.
Las personas positivas logran mejorías o curas en menos tiempo que las personas con poca voluntad para superar las limitaciones a las que la somete su enfermedad.
Debido a, que algunos estudios demuestran que una buena disposición refuerza el sistema inmunológico, que es el encargado de defendernos de las agresiones del medio interno y externo.

Viva El Tiempo Libre
Estudiar y trabajar nos pueden dar muchas satisfacciones. Pero el exceso de actividades y ocupaciones es un factor de enfermedad.
Es por esa razón que los programas de prevención incluyen el ocio y la distracción como elementos que permitan mantener el equilibrio psicofísico.
Se trata de que las personas disfruten de su tiempo libre, practicando deportes, realizando trabajos manuales, cocinando, leyendo, escuchando o haciendo música. Y muchas otras opciones.
Lamentablemente, la televisión es la que más acapara el tiempo libre de las personas. Esto no sería un problema si no hubiera un criterio selectivo, pero el hecho es que la gente pasa horas frente al televisor sin ejercer una actitud crítica sobre lo que ve y, en muchos casos, aceptando la deformación y falsificación de la realidad, o estereotipos y fórmulas repetidas hasta el cansancio.
Por el contrario, la cultura del tiempo libre significa ser activo y poner en funcionamiento la creatividad y la imaginación. Ante Todo La Salud
Acciones Básicas De Salud

Ante Todo La Salud FELICIDAD!!
Para defender la salud de nuestro cuerpo, debemos de tener en cuenta una serie de acciones básicas, destinadas tanto a individuos o ambientes sanos (para evitar la alteración del equilibrio) como a individuos o ambientes enfermos (para que recobren el equilibrio perdido).
Veamos cuáles son y de que se trata cada una:
Promoción De La Salud
- Consiste en motivar e informar a la gente para lograr conductas sanitarias positivas.
- Las personas pueden así elegir, libremente y con criterio, aquellas actitudes que beneficien la salud individual y ambiental.
- La promoción de la salud puede ser realizada de dos maneras:
- Asistemática: sin organización, planificación ni metodología previstas; por ejemplo, propagandas, programas de TV, etc.
- Sistemática: con planificación de objetivos y de las actividades necesarias para lograrlos. Por ejemplo, campañas sanitarias en las escuelas, universidades, etc.
Prevención Primaria
- Es la efectivización de acciones concretas sobre los individuos o los ambientes sanos, para evitar su alteración.
- También quiere decir que son acciones que tienden a suprimir o a evitar los riesgos que puedan dañar al individuo o perjudicar el medio ambiente.
- Ejemplo de esto es aplicar un plan de vacunación.
Prevención Secundaria
- Esta prevención se aplica cuando ha fallado lo anterior, es decir, sobre individuos, ambientes enfermos o alterados.
- Se trata de diagnosticar precoz-mente las enfermedades para impedir su extensión.
- Por ejemplo, en el caso de aguas contaminadas, hacer un estudio bacteriológico para determinar la bacteria causante de la contaminación, o hacerse un estudio sanguíneo ante cuadros de fiebre reiterados.
Rehabilitación
- Se aplica cuando la enfermedad deja secuelas transitorias o permanentes.
- Las acciones de este tipo tienen dos fines simultáneos: uno, lograr la re-adaptación a la nueva condición física, que permita al sujeto desenvolverse solo, pese a su discapacidad.
- Por ejemplo, el uso de silla de ruedas por una fractura de cadera.
- El otro fin apunta a la re-inserción social del discapacitado. Es decir que no se trata de trabajar con la capacidad que perdió, sino con todas las otras capacidades que tiene.
Prevención Terciaria, o de Recuperación o Tratamiento
- Se aplica una vez hecho el diagnóstico de la enfermedad, para lograr la curación total de la misma.
- Un ejemplo es la aplicación de un yeso ante una fractura, o la limpieza de un río contaminado.
La Salud Pública
¿Quiénes Se Ocupan Del Cuidado y De La Conservación De La Salud?
La sociedad, a través del Estado, cuenta con organismos e instituciones (Ministerios de Salud, de Educación; secretarias de Higiene y Sanidad, de Deportes, etc.).
Puesto que se ocupan de un amplio campo que va desde el control de los alimentos y la potabilidad del agua que bebemos.
Hasta las campañas de vacunación masiva, pasando por el uso de los medios de comunicación e información para educar sanitaria-mente.
Porque la mejor forma de promover la salud es la educación de la población. Y, por, esto, la acción debe partir del hogar y continuar en la escuela.
La divulgación de los conocimientos y las periódicas visitas a los especialistas nos ayudarán a mantener nuestra salud en buena forma. Ante Todo La Salud
Las Instituciones Al Servicio De La Salud
Una vez instalada la enfermedad, la medicina y sus ciencias auxiliares nos ayudarán a recuperarnos. Lo primero que hacemos es consultar al médico clínico o profesional especialista, si es necesario.
Podemos concurrir al consultorio o al hospital, donde tratarán de curarnos según la afección que tengamos.
Como verán, también la sociedad tiene sus mecanismos de defensa para luchar contra la enfermedad cuando ésta se presenta:
- Hospitales, centros de salud, salas de primeros auxilios, sanatorios, clínicas, etc.
- Centros de investigación y de lucha contra las enfermedades; campañas de vacunación.
- Educación de la población para prevención de las enfermedades, y promoción (fomento) de la salud.
